Decorative stitches bunching

I recently bought a Janome DC3050 and have had some problems with fabric being dragged into the needle plate while trying to use some of the decorative stitches .... 22 to 27. I bought some blue tip 75/11 needles and good quality thread but while it's helped it hasn't altogether stopped the problem. I've also found that these stitches can become condensed when going over thicker seams on a garment. I would be grateful for any advice as to where I'm going wrong.
